Trees & Shrubs

I must admit, I tend to take trees for granted. They're great for shade in the summer, but other than that, I never really paid attention to them. Until I needed some photos for the National Wildlife Federation's Field Guide to Trees.

The changes a tree goes through during the seasons is nothing short of miraculous - all while supporting other life forms from squirrels to lichen. Notice the last photo? It's a tiny tree attempting to grow in the extreme darkness of an old-growth forest. There isn't even enough light to turn the buds green.
